Mike Iupati, Anthony Davis see changes in 2014 base salaries

Over the course of my salary cap research, I come across all sorts of little tidbits of information related to the 49ers cap picture. Although some news is a lot less significant than other news, it is still pertinent to the bigger picture. When I come across these changes, I’ll be putting together articles looking at the change in the context of the given player(s) overall contract.

I recently came across some news surrounding the 49ers 2010 first round draft picks. There have been some changes to the 2014 salaries of Anthony Davis, and Mike Iupati. Davis saw his 2014 base salary lowered to $600,000, giving up him a new base salary of $1,073,600. Iupati will see his 2014 base salary increase by $300,000 to $1,600,500. Below are the updated cap figures for both players.

Anthony Davis

2013
Cap figure: $3,566,666
Base salary: $1,300,000
Signing bonus prorated: $166,666
Workout bonus: $400,000
Option bonus: $1,700,000

2014
Cap figure: $3,340,266
Base salary: $1,073,600

Mike Iupati

2013

Base salary: $1,002,000
Signing bonus prorated: $240,000
Roster bonus: $300,000
Option bonus: $1,087,500

2014
Cap figure: $3,255,863
Base salary: $1,600,500
Signing bonus prorated: $240,000
Roster bonus: $327,863
Option bonus: $1,087,500

It is unknown at this point what made these change. I would have thought Iupati’s came due to his Pro Bowl berth, but he would also have an increase for 2013. If he is getting that boost, I am not seeing it yet.. Davis is the mystery, as to why he was decreased by so much. But this will open up an extra $300,000 in cap space for the 49ers.

Following a season that saw the entire offensive line take a big step forward, hopefully the 49ers are working on trying to get both men extended sooner rather than later.
